Support for Peacekeeping
Stanford University, Spring 2016
Problem Statement
The Bureau of Political Military Affairs (PM) needs a way to assess the effectiveness of peacekeeping support programs.
Problem Scoping and Discovery
The team conducted 96 interviews with academics, government officials, and peacekeeping professionals. They found that while the US spends over 2 billions dollars a year on peacekeeping, PM did not have viable metrics to evaluate self sufficiency and human rights issues in peacekeeping missions. They also found that data that relates to these areas was not being reliably recorded.
Solution Proposed
The team recommended a secure web based form called PeaceStar that allows peacekeeping operators at different levels to input information whenever they learn something new from formal and informal interactions. This platform would ease reporting requirements for operators.
